Renewal rules for HVAC: check with State Construction Industry Licensing Board.
When does a Georgia contractor license expire?
Licenses renew every two years, due June 30 of even-numbered years. The renewal fee is $100 for every license type, and renewing late (July 1 to December 31) adds a $100 late fee. A license not renewed by December 31 is treated as revoked; reinstatement costs $300 and is at the Board's discretion, which can include a new exam. Residential licensees must have 3 (Basic) or 6 (Light Commercial) continuing education hours per year, reported through CE Broker; commercial general contractors have no continuing education.1
How many continuing education hours does Georgia require?
Residential-Basic: 3 hours per year; Residential-Light Commercial: 6 hours per year (year: July 1 to June 30); up to half may be online. No CE rule for General Contractor or Limited Tier renewals in Rule 553-12. Since January 1, 2026 hours must be logged in CE Broker.1
Renewal fee: check with State Licensing Board for Residential and General Contractors (SOS).
