Bond and insurance by trade in Arkansas
Bond and insurance rules for electrical, plumbing and HVAC: check with Contractors Licensing Board (Dept of Labor and Licensing), Dept of Health, HVACR Licensing Board.
How much is the contractor bond in Arkansas?
You must send a reviewed financial statement with every application and renewal (a compiled statement for restricted licenses under $1,500,000 per project). Instead of a financial statement, you can file a continuous surety bond equal to 10 times the minimum net worth for your classification, for example $500,000 for a building license.1
What general liability insurance does Arkansas require?
Arkansas sets no general liability insurance minimum for a contractor license. You must carry workers' compensation as the law requires and give the board proof before it issues or renews your license. The board also checks that you meet a minimum business net worth, at least half of it in cash for new applicants: $50,000 for heavy, highway, municipal/utility and building; $20,000 for light building, mechanical and electrical; $5,000 for a specialty.1
Can an Arkansas contractor be exempt from workers' comp?
Required. The board needs proof of current workers' compensation coverage before it issues or renews a license, and can suspend the license if coverage lapses.1
What is a certificate of insurance?
It's the one-page summary (usually an ACORD 25 form) a contractor's agent issues to show the policies, limits and dates in force. How to read and check one
